EU Special Representative for Human Rights in Embassy Madrid

As part of the EU50 programme, Embassy Madrid hosted an event with former Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, and current EU Special Representative for Human Rights: Eamon Gilmore, on 29 September 2022.

The Embassy paired with two locally based think tanks, the Carles Ambares Foundation and the Elcano Institute, to organise a lunchtime discussion entitled “The EU’s Role in Promoting Human Rights, Peace and Stability”.

A discussion between Charles Powell, the Director of the Elcano Institute and Mr. Gilmore followed, during which the Mr. Gilmore spoke about his experiences with the Irish and Colombian Peace Processes, as well as the global situation regarding Human Rights.

The audience included representatives of all of Spain’s major Human Rights NGOs, Spanish Officials, journalists, diplomats from other embassies and academics.
