Bloomsday Centenary Celebration
A special evening marking 100 years of Ulysses, featuring Joycean readings, music, and song, hosted by Lisa Dwan with special guests at the Embassy of Ireland.
Our evening will feature a host of readings from acclaimed actors from the UK and Ireland, including Sinead Cusack, Jeremy Irons and Eileen O'Higgins among others. The evening will also feature live music and song.
One of the musical performances will be the premiere of a commission by Irish composer and pedagogue Rhona Clarke for voice, saxophone and piano, which is based on the ‘Sirens’ chapter in Ulysses.
It will be performed by award-winning Irish saxophonist Robert Finnegan, French soprano and Andrea Bocelli Foundation Scholarship recipient Clara Barbier Serrano, and British-born Chinese collaborative pianist Tia Ling.

Painting Ulysses
To mark the 100th anniversary year of the publication of James Joyce’s masterpiece “ULYSSES”, the Irish Cultural Centre Hammersmith London is delighted to Present this Spectacular Visual Art Exhibition "Painting Ulysses" by Irish painter Aidan Hickey.
Opening June 9th until August 31st 2022
The exhibition will be opened by Mr Michael Lonergan, Counsellor for Political Affairs, Embassy of Ireland and the Award-Winning ‘Joycean’ Actor, Frank Grimes.
This exhibition comprises of 18 magnificent paintings, depicting each of the 18 Episodes in James Joyce’s novel. As each of Joyce’s episodes in ULYSSES was written in a different literary style, Hickey has designed each painting in a different visual style.
The exhibition comes to the ICC straight from The James Joyce Centre in Dublin. This show will be a UK Premiere. The exhibition is just one of the many high-profile events which the ICC are presenting, to mark the venue’s 25th anniversary year.

The ICC is delighted to present this Special FREE Screening of the short film (30mins) “James Joyce – Reluctant Groom” to mark Bloomsday 2022!!!
Come along and watch this fascinating film on the big screen here at the ICC on Bloomsday. “James Joyce – Reluctant Groom” tells the story of, how after living together for almost three decades James Joyce came to London to secretly marry Nora Barnacle on 4 July 1931.
It’s with great panache that the Dublin born poet, Niall McDevitt takes us on a London-based Bloomsday journey, stopping at the houses of people who were closely connected with Joyce and his career. One of them, Wyndham Lewis, coined the phrase ‘the Men of 1914’ to describe himself, Joyce, T.S. Eliot and Ezra Pound.
A highlight of the film is when Niall takes us to the house where James and Nora lived for the best part of a year on Campden Grove in Kensington.
James and Nora’s children Giorgio and Lucia came to visit and so did paparazzi seeking out a good story…
This thirty-minute, poetic documentary is a rollercoaster ride through the lives of some of the giants of twentieth century literature.
It’s a gem of a film and a joy to watch, and a wonderful way to celebrate Bloomsday’ – So make sure you come along!
This special film screening will be introduced by the films’ Director Sé Merry Doyle and the Poet and Psycho-Geographer Niall McDevitt.

“The He & The She of It” – A Portrait of James Joyce
One of Ireland’s leading actors Frank Grimes performs his riveting portrait of one of the world’s greatest literary figures, James Joyce. With extracts from ‘Finnegans Wake’, ‘The Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man’, ‘Dubliners’ and ‘Ulysses’, this performance is a superb tribute to the great man and his work and the ICC is thrilled to be presenting it during the 100th anniversary year of his master piece ‘ULYSSES’.

Multiple Joyce at the Irish Literary Society
In this centenary year of the publication of Ulysses we are delighted to welcome David Collard to the Society with his new book, Multiple Joyce: One Hundred Short Essays About James Joyce’s Cultural Legacy (Sagging Meniscus Press, June 2022).
David will be joining the novelist Rónán Hession to talk about the book and all things Joyce. Springing from the essays we’ll have readings from the great Joycean Frank Grimes, song and music to mark the centenary and to bring our season to a close.
