The City Where Design Meets Play
Imagine a world of candyfloss clouds and popcorn drainpipes, with curiosities and wonder around every corner. It might sound like a fantasy, but that’s exactly what Design Meets Play has in store.
Transforming Dublin’s Point Village into the stuff of dreams on 17 October, this fun-filled conference is attracting advocates, architects, NGOs, policy makers, designers and academics who all have a serious aim – to create more safe, appealing spaces for children in the city.
Some of the special guests contributing to the event include Turner Prize winner Amica Dall from the Assemble Collective, President of European Network of Child-Friendly Cities Adrian Voce and Dublin City Council Play Officer Deborah Clarke.
These experts and members of the community of all ages will work alongside each other during the day in interactive panels, workshops and city walks. Far from just a talking shop, the ideas generated will lead to playful interventions springing up across Dublin early next year.
Design Meets Play is part of the A Playful City campaign, the brainchild of event organisers Connect the Dots and children’s play space designers Upon a Tree. It’s supported by over a dozen partners, including the Science Gallery, KLM, UCD, UNICEF, Sean Harrington Architects and Institute of Designers Ireland.
This immersive conference dovetails perfectly with the Creative Ireland Dublin City Council plan for 2017. Part of a five-year initiative, this aims to increase awareness of and access to creativity and culture at every level of society.
