As the saying goes, you can’t choose your family. But Rusangano Family threw that old adage out the window and have created their own fraternal trio that transcends bloodlines.

Two MCs – God Knows and MuRli – and DJ MynameisjOhn make up this critically-acclaimed hip hop group. Although they all spent their formative years in the west of Ireland, God Knows was born in Zimbabwe, MuRli was born in Togo and MynameisjOhn was born in County Clare.

Being Irish is about an unbreakable connection with the country you choose to call home.

With music rich in influence, from grime to dancehall and everything in between, this isn’t a quirky experiment. It’s the sound of modern Irish creativity. Being Irish isn’t just about where you were born. Being Irish is about an unbreakable connection with the country you choose to call home.

Making waves in Ireland, the UK and the US, Rusangano Family have received Irish music’s most coveted award – the Choice Music Prize Irish Album of the Year 2016 – for Let the Dead Bury the Dead.

They’re bringing their unique blend of Irish hip hop to festivals around Ireland this summer, including Forbidden Fruit in Kilmainham, the Carlow Arts Festival and The Beatyard in Dún Laoghaire.
