The Department of Foreign Affairs are a proud sponsor of the Frederick Douglass Global Fellowship in Ireland. This programme honours the legacy of the abolitionist Frederick Douglass who visited Ireland in 1845 and witnessed the first-hand efforts to overcome religious injustice, gender injustice and racial injustice.
He then returned to America in 1847, inspired and determined to fight for positive social change. This Fellowship is a fully funded summer study abroad programme designed for students of colour and explores the impact that effective leaders have had on social justice movements and critical peace and conflict resolution efforts around the world.
