Ireland’s Strategy for France to 2025

Ireland has an excellent relationship with France. Our two countries have vibrant and historic cultural, community, political, trade and business links. We have an enduring friendship and affinity going back centuries.

In 2018, the Embassy of Ireland in Paris conducted a review of Ireland’s relations with France. The review offered an opportunity to look at areas where our relationship could be further strengthened.

We met with over 140 people around France during our roadshows, and our survey received over 300 responses. We also held extensive consultations with Irish and French businesses, state agencies, government departments and many others.

This input has helped to shape the strategy.

Our new Strategy for France is entitled “In Spirit and in Action” quoting President de Gaulle from his visit to Ireland 50 years ago this year. Reflecting on the bonds between our countries, he said that it was time for Ireland and France “to be together again in sprit and in action”.

It sets out our strategic objectives to deepen our relationship with France, and sets out concrete actions that we will be taking forward in the coming years. We would like to thank everyone who contributed to the Review, and helped shape this Strategy.
