Taoiseach Micheál Martin deepens connections with our closest EU neighbour.

Ireland’s relationship with France has never been stronger.

Our expanded diplomatic presence including our new Consulate General in Lyon and Honorary Consulate in Brittany are supporting growing trade, cultural and community links.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin visited Paris on 24-25 November 2022 for a programme of events focused on expanding bilateral cooperation with France and marking a significant milestone in the development of the Celtic Interconnector.

Ireland-France Joint Plan of Action

The Taoiseach met with President Emmanuel Macron to consider progress made in the first year of the Ireland-France Joint Plan of Action, an ambitious agenda that reflects Ireland and France’s shared priorities.

Celtic Interconnector

The Taoiseach and President Macron discussed the development of the Interconnector, our largest ever bilateral project with France.

The Taoiseach met with Irish companies and French companies driving trade and investment links between our countries, including in the area of energy and sustainability.

France is Ireland’s seventh largest export market and our third highest source of imports.

Ireland’s 50 years of EU

Ireland’s rich relationship with France is built on shared values inspired by our shared EU membership over the last 50 years.

As Ireland’s bilateral relationship with France grows ever closer, this visit was an important occasion in which to deepen links with our closest EU neighbour even further.
