Gender equality in Europe: Are we there yet?

The Consulate General of Ireland, Frankfurt, hosted its first St. Brigid’s Day event on 1 February at the Literaturhaus in Frankfurt at which some 80 individuals attended.
The topic of the event, ‘Gender Equality in Europe: Are we there yet?’ was chosen to not only highlight women in leadership positions as part of St. Brigid’s Day celebrations but also to link up with EU50 and highlight the role the European Union has played in advancing Gender Equality.
The panel discussion, which was moderated by Consul General Anne-Marie Flynn, included Petra Hielkema, Chairperson of the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA), Mary Campbell, President of the German-Irish Chamber of Commerce and former Head of Operations in Ireland for Deutsche Bank, Fiona Van Echelpoel, Deputy Director in the Directorate General for Market Infrastructure and Payments in the European Central Bank, and Eileen O’Sullivan, Head of Department for Digitalisation, Citizens Services, Participation and EU Affairs in the City of Frankfurt am Main.
