What is Post Passport from An Post?

It is the only postal application method accepted in Ireland for passport applications. We will not process passport applications submitted by ordinary or registered post. We will send these applications back to you unprocessed.

How to apply

Living in Ireland

Please note: Passport Online is the fastest and most convenient way to apply for your passport.

  • Collect an APS 1E passport application form from a Garda station or An Post office.
  • Complete your application form.
  • Bring your application form and documents to any An Post office.
  • Buy a Post Passport envelope.
  • Give your application to a counter clerk.
  • Pay with cash or credit/debit card.
  • Your receipt will have a tracking number on it that you can use to make enquiries about your application.

Living in Northern Ireland

Please note: Passport Online is the fastest and most convenient way to apply for your passport.

  • Get an APS 2E passport application form from over 70 post offices.
  • Complete your application form.
  • Bring your application form and documents to one of these Post Offices.
  • Buy a passport postal service envelope.
  • Give your application to a counter clerk.
  • Pay with cash or credit/debit card.
  • Your receipt will have a tracking number on it that you can use to make enquiries about your application.

Living abroad excluding Great Britain

You must submit a passport application from the country you reside in.

Passport Online is the fastest and most convenient way to apply for your passport, from anywhere in the world.

It is not possible to submit a passport application, while on holiday in Ireland.

Living in Great Britain

Please note: Passport Online is the fastest and most convenient way to apply for your passport.

You need to get an APS 2E passport application form. You can get this form from:

  • Your nearest Irish centre in Great Britain
  • The Passport Office, 114A Cromwell Road, London, SW7 4ES
  • Consulate of Ireland, Edinburgh
  • Contact the Embassy of Ireland, Great Britain and they will post it to you.

Once you have received your APS 2E form:

  • Complete your APS 2E form.
  • Bring your application form and documents to one of the following Post Offices:
      • Cardiff Post Office, 83 - 85 Queen Street, Cardiff, CF10 2NX
      • Glasgow Post Office, 140 West Nile Street, Glasgow, G1 2RD,
      • Liverpool Post Office, 1 – 3 South John Street, Liverpool, L1 8BN. 
      • As this is a walk-in service, you will need to visit the post offices in person to avail of this service.
  • Buy a passport postal service envelope.
  • Give your application to a counter clerk.
  • Pay with cash or credit/debit card.
  • Your receipt will have a tracking number on it that you can use to make enquiries about your application.

Sole Guardian Affidavit (AFF1) Form

Passport applications for children under the age of 18 need the consent of all guardians. In certain circumstances, a passport application for a child may need to be accompanied by a Sole Guardian Affidavit Form.

Declaration Form A

What is it

A sworn statement by the parent, giving details of their period of residency in Ireland.

When do you need it

  • The child was born after January 1st 2005 and
  • You want to show the citizenship of the child through habitual residency in Ireland and
  • The parents were born within the European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland (Excluding Northern Ireland and Great Britain).

You must get this form witnessed.
